รู้หรือไม่ว่า ทุกๆ วินาที มีขวดน้ำพลาสติกถูกจำหน่ายถึง 20,000 ขวด หรือ นาทีละกว่า 1 ล้านขวด
เฉพาะในปี 2016 มีการจำหน่ายน้ำในขวดพลาสติกถึงเกือบ 5 แสนล้านขวด ไม่ถึงครึ่งหนึ่งที่มีการรีไซเคิล และเปลี่ยนกลับมาเป็นขวดใหม่เพียงแค่ 7% เท่านั้น
หมายความว่ามีขวดพลาสติกกว่า 2 แสนล้านขวด ถูกทิ้งในสภาพแวดล้อม จำนวนหนึ่งถูกฝังกลบ ซึ่งจะแตกตัวและปล่อยสารพิษออกมา จำนวนหนึ่งออกสู่ทะเลและแตกเป็นพลาสติกชิ้นเล็กๆ ที่เรียกว่า ไมโครพลาสติก กลายเป็นอาหารของสัตว์น้ำ และถูกส่งต่อผ่านห่วงโซ่อาหาร จนมาสู่มนุษย์
นอกจากปรับปรุงเรื่องประสิทธิภาพในการจัดเก็บและรีไซเคิลขวดแล้ว ต้องยอมรับว่าเราต้องลดการใช้ขวดพลาสติกลงให้มากที่สุด
ใช้เท่าที่จำเป็นและหลีกเลี่ยงการซื้อน้ำบรรจุขวดพลาสติกด้วยการพกพาขวดน้ำส่วนตัว
วิกฤติมลภาวะพลาสติกแก้ได้ หากทุกคนเริ่มเปลี่ยนแปลงพฤติกรรมของเราเอง
